Philip gained his wide engineering experience having worked for a number of companies in Huddersfield area. He joined Copley in 1992 and has extensively worked on almost all our machines since then. Philip’s enthusiasm and expertise saw him become a Managing Director in 2002 and he also owned the business for a number of years. Now, he is our top machinist and primarily supervises the shop floor operation but can also facilitate the quotation process at busy times. When not working, Philip likes listening to music, countryside walking and has a keen interest in motorbike racing.
Sue has spent many years working various office related positions and has experience in accounts, payroll and HR. She worked at FS Cooper in Halifax, manufacturers of lifting equipment, before joining us in 1992 and also owning the business for a number of years. From placing orders and calculating wages to credit control, Sue is responsible for all financial and administration functions (and some more unusual ones too!) We turn to Sue with all possible queries and she always seems to know the answer. Outside the office, Sue enjoys socialising and going away on short and long breaks both in UK as well as overseas.
Tom has been in engineering since the 70’s and has an enormous experience ranging from working heavy machinery on the shop floor and estimating projects to research and development. He is currently our main Estimator, always busy looking at varied range of drawings – from small and simple parts to large and complicated components. Away from the drawing board, Tom appreciates various activities, preferably non-engineering related and his 3 grandchildren make sure he’s always kept occupied.
Before joining us in 2010, Mike developed his engineering skills through an apprenticeship provided by Kirkdale Industrial Training Services and then worked for Environmental Agency and Renold Hi-Tec Couplings. Although trained as a Horizontal Borer, Mike moves around our workshop and is able to perform a variety of processes such as milling, turning and drilling. Far from being faint hearted, he is also our First Aider and trains boxing at the local gym in his spare time.
Emma, the latest addition to our team, joined in August 2015 as part time office administrator. Emma provides administrative assistance to the busy quoting department and ensures our customers receive accurate quotations on time. Being at the front line of customer service, she is usually the first point of contact for any telephone and email enquiries as well as handling deliveries and obtaining raw material cost. When not working, Emma volunteers at Yorkshire Cat Rescue and often fosters orphan kittens at her own home.
Liam joined the Copley team in 2006, enticed by his father Phillip, who at the time owned the business. Having started as a labourer working on Saturday mornings, Liam continued mastering his skills at college and trained on all our machines. Liam appreciates how lucky he was to be able to learn from such a good engineer as Philip and witness the creation of some of the ultra large components we can manufacture. Two years ago Liam became our Foreman and is currently a chief CNC operator, also responsible for opening and locking up the workshop. In his spare time, Liam is always busy building various items around the home and garden as well as dabbing into IT and computer science.
Fred has been a part of Copley family since 1988 and can remember times when our company was heavily involved in reconditioning and building of woodworking machinery. Used to be part of the machine design process with one of the previous owners of Copley Engineering. Fred left school and became an engineering apprentice originally trained in fitting and machining, now also does slotting and general milling. When not sharing his vast experience with newer members of our team, Fred enjoys spending time in his static caravan in Filey, where you can find him most weekends.
Michael joined us in 2008, having previously worked in extruding and manufacturing of conveyor belt rollers. He keeps our busy workshop tidy, sets up machines and currently also learns how to operate some of them. Michael likes to be kept busy and being at the forefront of customer service is also responsible for all collections and deliveries. Michael’s professional skills are also utilised in his hobby, which is restoring old Italian scooters. He has been bringing them back to life ever since he turned 16 and has two beautiful Vespas at the moment (which he also loves riding!)
Fully apprentice trained, Adrian came on board Copley’s team in 1990 and has worked on the large milling machine ever since. He is our most trusted team member to operate this kind of large machinery and work that he is able to undertake ranges from various bespoke components to large granulated doors. Outside of work, Adrian enjoys travelling and spending time with his grandchildren.
David is our newest member of the workshop team, having previously worked for Calderdale Engineering, he joined us in June 2015. Fully apprentice trained, David can undertake various size jobs on different machines. When not at work, David likes nothing better than relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle of our busy shop floor.
